OTHER NOTABLE EVENTS TODAY
1937 - United's first ever home fixture. Bath City are beaten 6 - 1 with Reg Smith scoring the first ever hat-trick for the club. Goalkeeper Ronnie Dunn, a bugler in the Army, played the Post Horn Gallop for the first time as the players took the field.
1939 - The U's draw 0-0 with Ipswich Town in the last competitive fixture before World War 2 interrupted football. The players contracts were suspended in the following week with manager Ted Davis returning to Bristol, Jim Baker returning home as have Light and Murray. Arthur Pritchard, as a reservist, has joined his regiment. The remainder of the players were engaged on ARP and other work of national importance.

2009 - Adie Boothroyd is appointed the club's 27th manager and within hours makes his first signing - John-Joe O'Toole on loan from Watford
2013 - Long-serving midfielder Kem Izzet is released by mutual consent after failing to appear in Joe Dunne's team for the start of the season. Izzet made 473 appearances for the U's, scoring 21 times, putting him 5th in the all-time apperance makers. Such was his stature within the club, in 2011 he became the first ever serving player to be elected to the club's Hall of Fame.
